Summary / Objective

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the overall field execution of construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications. This role provides on-site leadership, coordinates subcontractors and crews, and maintains strict adherence to quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, capable of driving productivity while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee daily field operations across assigned construction projects from mobilization through closeout
  • Supervise field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements
  • Develop and execute daily and weekly work plans, including manpower, equipment, and material coordination
  • Ensure all work meets contract specifications, drawings, and quality standards
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively address delays or issues to maintain timelines
  • Enforce compliance with all safety regulations, including OSHA and site-specific requirements (e.g., EM-385 for federal projects, if applicable)
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure adherence to job hazard analyses (JHAs) and safety protocols
  • Coordinate inspections, including preparatory, initial, and follow-up phases where applicable
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, logs, and progress tracking
  • Collaborate with project management to support RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project reporting
  • Ensure proper use, care, and accountability of company equipment and resources
  • Lead by example, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance

Competencies & Basic Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience, with progressive field leadership responsibility
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent or similar role overseeing field operations
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and sequencing
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage crews and subcontractors effectively
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and maintain team morale

Education & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Additional technical training or certifications in construction management, safety, or related field preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience with federal/DoD projects (NAVFAC, USACE, etc.) is a plus

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibility over field personnel and subcontractors.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in both outdoor construction environments and indoor office settings
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain
  • Must be able to adapt to dynamic and fast-paced project environments

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around job sites for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Ability to work in uneven terrain and active construction zones

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time position
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as project demands require

Travel

Limited travel may be required depending on project location and operational needs.
