The Radio Technician ensures reliable communications for users of the LFN radio and dispatch communications systems. Provides services to the LFN Communications Department for LMR and Zetron equipment. Interfaces with the Business Area Management department to maintain effective radio communications with LFN customers/PSAPs, and collaborates with the Aviation department to ensure airborne radio system programming remains current.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three to five years’ experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems theory. Able to use a computer and program, troubleshoot, perform diagnostics, and repair complex communication systems.
- Be able to pass a local, state, and federal background or security check
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or vocational school in electronics and wireless system repair is preferred but not required
- Experience in diagnostics, repair, maintenance, programming wireless communication equipment such as 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, antennas for customers. [KR1] [RB2]
- Experienced with dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, and trunked radio systems. Knowledge of radio repair, mobile installations, DC, AC, and RF Theory as it applies to wireless communications.
- Must have at minimum FCC GROL or be willing to get within 6 months
- Experience with Motorola ASTRO or P25 is highly desirable
- CET certification preferred
- Ability to operate test equipment to perform diagnostics on wireless equipment
- Wireless communications test equipment such as service monitors, watt meters, VOM’s, etc.
- Uses computer or computerized tools to perform wireless communications system programming, repair, and troubleshooting[KR3] [RB4]
- Strong leadership skills with a willingness to lead by example and proactively seek solutions
- Available to work on short notice in the event of staffing/scheduling issues, including weekends, holidays, and evenings
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communication with peers, patients, families, customers, and the community
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, have access to an automobile in good repair, be able to provide proof of auto insurance, meet LFN’s Driver’s Policy Requirements and be able to travel whenever to wherever business needs necessitate
SAFETY:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, discuss, and resolve wireless communication equipment questions and problems with customers in a positive and efficient manner in person on customer’s site, by phone, e-mail
- Perform required diagnostic and analytical tests to diagnose and repair wireless communication equipment such as dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, and trunked radio systems, and mobile installations
- Analyze and comprehend diagnostic test results and use to repair and program radios and wireless equipment
- Work with customer to determine deadlines, urgency, timeline, and schedule of completing repairs, maintenance, and programming with customers, vendors, and shop management to ensure resolution of problem meets customer’s needs
- Prepare quotes and bids
- Perform wireless communications system programming, per industry practices and vendor criteria
- Performs the installation of radio and wireless mobile and base communications systems per industry practices and vendor criteria
- Reports any accidents, maintenance needs, or repairs to management while using any company vehicle. Practices and follows safe driving procedures as described and required in safe driver training.
- Maintain and apply for LFN FCC licensing as required to support LFN radio communications
- Working knowledge of Zetron Max dispatch system and ROIP technology
- Regular work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To meet organizational and Communications Center operational needs, the position may occasionally require participation in an on‑call schedule and the flexibility to work additional hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as business needs dictate.
- Work with the Senior Director of Patient Transport Logistics and Business Area Managers to identify and ensure correct operability of radio frequencies in each county within the operating area of LFN. This will entail contacting county agencies on a set frequency of time and insuring LFN information is accurate and up to date.
- Work with the Senior Director of Patient Transport Logistics and Director of QM to promote and facilitate QM processes and ensure employees understand and adhere to them
- Assist Senior Director of Patient Transport Logistics in establishing, tracking, trending, and analyzing quality indicators and established thresholds
