POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is expected to embody the essence of servant leadership, prioritizing the needs of employees, members, and communities. The Accounting Manager will be committed to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The individual serves as a champion of the credit union’s strategic direction, leading by example to innovate, adapt, and drive initiatives that propel Credit Union West towards a shared vision of growth, financial stability and community prosperity.

Enhances the quality of life for Credit Union members/team members by meeting or exceeding their service expectations. Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all accounting and financial reporting functions. Responsible for safeguarding Credit Union assets and fiscal record keeping. Responsible for the preparation of reports for Senior Management, the board of directors, external users, auditors, and government agencies. Monitors department policies and procedures and recommends improvements. Ensures that accounting activities are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), legal, regulatory, and Credit Union procedures. Ensures that the Accounting Department supports the overall goals of the Credit Union and financial services are delivered professionally and efficiently.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Effective Management and Implementation of Accounting Operations – Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Accounting department. Plans, directs, and coordinates all functions of accounting. Directing, coordinating, and maintaining an efficient and effective department to represent the proper financial position of the credit union while ensuring financial records are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), state and federal laws, and other government regulations. Develops and implements operational plans, policies and procedures for the department that furthers credit union objectives and short and long-term goals. Prepares various credit union metrics, budgets, financial statements, investment activity, and regulatory reports in a timely and accurate manner.

• Leading Talent - Hires, trains, directs and evaluates employee performance and behaviors to serve the member experience. Allocates resources to meet operational needs within the department. Provides leadership, coaching, and direction for their team members ensuring they have the support and development opportunities to become well-trained employees excelling in their roles.

• Effective Communication and Collaboration - Builds collaborative working relationships with management and direct reports to lead the accounting operations. Instructs personnel regularly regarding policy, procedure, program, and system modifications or changes.

• Project Management – Responsible for active and effective participation on corporate project initiatives related to the accounting area.

• Other - Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION: 

Accounting Bachelor’s degree obtained through a formal 4-year program at an accredited educational facility preferred or equivalent experience.


EXPERIENCE: 

A minimum of 5 - 8 years of previous leadership experience in a financial institution setting preferred or equivalent leadership experience. Understanding of GAAP and the NCUA Call Report preparation. Strong knowledge of accounting systems.

• Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and collaborative tools (Teams and Zoom).

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of organization’s Employee Handbook and policies.

• Must demonstrate functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
