Position Details:
The PCU is a unit that provides care to patients age 18 and older requiring a higher level of care and surveillance than a general med/surg floor but not presenting the need for critical care in an intensive care unit. Clinically, they may present with a variety of medical needs including but not limited to: New onset asymptomatic dysrhythmia responding to treatment; hypertensive or hypotensive urgency; hemodynamically stable myocardial infarction; stable neurological deficits; confusion/agitation/substance withdrawal; respiratory distress or evidence of compromised gas exchange when hemodynamically stable and responding to treatment; maintenance/initiation of BIPAP/CPAP or high flow oxygen therapy in which further deterioration is unlikely after initiation. Unit specific certifications required include ACLS, basic dysrhythmia interpretation, NIHSS and ASLS, these classes are offered through Mercy and should be completed upon 90 days from hire.
